Paying respects to a legend. Celebrities are mourning the death of iconic singer Tina Turner after she passed away at the age of 83.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” read a statement on the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Instagram account on Wednesday, May 24, alongside a black-and-white photo of the music icon. “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she charmed millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend, who has left us her greatest work: Her music. All our heartfelt condolences go out to her family. Tina, we will miss you so much.”
Earlier that day, Turner’s representative released a statement announcing his death.
“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ died today at the age of 83 after a long illness at her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland.” their spokesman, Bernard DohertyAdded: “With him, the world loses a musical legend and a role model.”
The Tennessee native’s stars and fans flocked to pay their respects in tribute.
“Rejoice in the Queen of Heaven. Legends never die. Rest in Power, Rosario Dawson answered. “Rest in Power Legendary Queen 👑,” Debbie Gibson commented.
While Turner has had a flourishing career since her debut at age 18, the “What’s Love Got to Do With It” songstress has faced a series of health issues in recent years. In 2013, the Grammy winner suffered a stroke three weeks after tying the knot erwin bach, While recovering from the stroke, Turner had to learn to walk again. Three years later it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer and kidney failure.
“I didn’t have any pain but my body was reacting to kidney failure, to cancer in the colon. It seems to go on and on and on and on it does… Then they came along, had cancer in the colon, both The kidneys were already gone and the kidneys take care of cleaning the body,” she wrote in her 2018 memoir, Tina Turner: My Love Story, “All of that was starting to turn toxic. So it was on its way. I said that I am ready to go if there is time. My mother and sister are gone. Irwin said, ‘No, I don’t want another partner,’ so it went on.
The “A Fool in Love” artist was the mother of two sons: Craig, whom she shared with saxophonist Raymond Hill, and Ronnie, whom she welcomed with ex-husband and musical partner Ike Turner. Tina also adopted Ike’s two sons from a prior relationship. Craig died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in July 2018 at the age of 59. Prior to her death, Tina had lost Ronnie to colon cancer in December 2022.
