Origin Story of goddess Naina Devi

naina devi ji

According to Durga Saptashati and Devi Mahatyamaya, there was a war between the Devas and the Asuras for a hundred years. Asuro’s army was victorious in this battle. Mahishasura, the king of the Asuras, became the king of heaven and the deities began to roam the earth like normal human beings.

Then the defeated deity took Brahma ji ahead and went to the place where Shiva went to Lord Vishnu. Told the whole story. Hearing this, Lord Vishnu and Shiva became very angry, out of that anger Vishnu and Shiva’s body emanated from each other. The face of that goddess was formed by the glory of Lord Shankar,

the left side of that goddess by the brilliance of Vishnu, the feet by the brilliance of Brahma and the hair by the brilliance of Yamaraja, the region cut by the brilliance of Indra and the body of that goddess by the brilliance of other deities.

Then Himalaya provided the lion, Lord Vishnu the lotus, Indra the bell and the ocean provided the never-soiled garland. Then all the gods worshiped the goddess so that the goddess would be pleased and her sufferings could be redressed.

And the same thing happened. The goddess was pleased and gave a boon to the gods and said that I will definitely protect you. As a result of this, the goddess started a war with Mahishasura. In which the goddess was victorious and since then the name of the goddess came to be Mahishasur Mardani.

According to the tenth book “Chandi Di Vaar” composed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Durga killed Mahishasura in Birkhet. This Birkhet is present in the Shivalik mountain range only in the famous Shakambhari Devi Shaktipeeth.

Story of Maa Naina Devi

One of the Shakti Peeth Temples is the Naina Devi Temple. There are a total of 51 Shaktipeeths in the whole of India. All of whom have the same origin story. These temples are all connected to Mother Shakti and Lord Shiva. Religious scriptures claim that the goddess’s pieces had scattered throughout various locations.

King Daksha, the father-in-law of Lord Shiva, organized a yagna in which he did not invite Shiva and Sati because he did not consider Lord Shiva as his equal. Mother Sati felt very bad about this thing and she reached the yagya without being called. Lord Shiva was insulted a lot at the place of Yagya, which Mother Sati could not bear and she jumped into the Havan Kund.

When Lord Shankar came to know about this, he came and took out the body of Mother Sati from the Havan Kund and started doing tandav. Because of this, the entire world cried out. In order to save the whole universe from this crisis, Lord Vishnu divided the body of Mother Sati into 51 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra, the part where it fell became the Shakti Peeth.

Mahakali in Kolkata due to hair loss, Mata Brijeshwari in Nagarkot owing to breast tissue loss, and Mata Jwala Devi in a volcano due to tongue loss, Mata Mansa Devi due to fall of anterior part of brain near Panchkula, Haryana, due to ankle fall in Kurukshetra Mata Bhadrakali, Mata Shakambhari Devi due to falling of head on Shivalik mountain near Saharanpur, Mata Hinglaj Bhavani due to fall of Brahmarandhra near Karachi, Mata Kamakhya Devi due to fall of womb in Assam, Mata Chintpurni etc. . It is believed that the eyes of Mother Sati fell in Naina Devi.
