2. Close any type of shelter
Rats make homes under existing structures, such as garden buildings and decking. To prevent this, it is advisable to block access to the areas below it – no matter how narrow the space.
However, before doing so, make sure there are no rats living under the structure being sealed off, as “they will die an unpleasant death”, experts warned.
Families should do a general cleaning of their garden, getting rid of any debris and cutting back overgrown vegetation. This will provide less cover to the rats. Keeping the grass short will also help.
