KALYAN: An autorickshaw driver attacked a passenger with a bamboo stick on Monday night near Indira Chowk in Dombivali (E) after she refused to give him Rs 10 more than the normal fare. A video of the fight has gone viral on social media.
Ramnagar police has registered a case of assault against the auto driver on the complaint of victim Ganesh Tambe. “We have booked the autorickshaw driver and are on the lookout for him,” said Sachin Sanbhor, senior inspector of Ramnagar police station.
Tambe said he took an autorickshaw to return to his residence in Pisavli area of ​​Kalyan on Monday night. “I asked the driver to take me till Tata Power House Circle,” Tambe told TOI. “He demanded Rs 40 for the ride. When I pointed out that he was charging Rs 30 more than the normal fare, he lost his temper. He took out a bamboo stick from his vehicle and started assaulting me Other auto drivers tried to stop him.” Tambe said he called the police’s emergency number ‘100’, but by the time police reached the spot, the accused and other auto drivers had fled. Tambe gave the number plate of the autorickshaw to the police and was later admitted to the nearby Shastri Nagar hospital. He was discharged after treatment on Tuesday morning.
Locals complained that in the past also there have been cases of auto drivers threatening passengers and overcharging in Dombivli.
