It will be a morale booster for TDP if it wins both the seats at the end of counting. TDP state branch president K Atchanayadu said people have rejected the YSRCP’s drama of three capital cities and development of the north-coastal region with Vizag as capital. TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna Reddy said the results of the graduate constituencies would be the beginning of the downfall of the YSRCP. Senior TDP leader Ch Ayyanna Patrudu termed TDP’s lead in the North Coast constituency as a big blow to YSRCP’s hollow promises with the working capital city. “People proved they are not fools. They wanted development, not promises. They are also worried about the encroachment of precious land in Vizag after YSRCP entered the port city with the capital city gamble.
Meanwhile, YSRCP candidates wrested both the MLC seats from teachers’ constituencies in East Rayalaseema and West Rayalaseema. YSRCP candidate from East Rayalaseema teachers’ constituency Parvathareddy Chandrasekhara Reddy defeated his rival candidate by over 2,000 votes after the second preference vote was counted.
After counting of third preference votes, YSRCP candidate MV Ramachandra Reddy defeated APTF candidate Vonteru Srinivasa Reddy by a margin of just 169 votes.
YSRCP candidate Vennapusa Ravindra Reddy is leading over his TDP rival from West Rayalaseema Graduates’ constituency by around 1,500 votes. The counting of votes is expected to be completed by evening.
